FR212 – Arts for Everyone: Evolution of Inclusion at the Kennedy Center

52 years after its opening, the Kennedy Center still strives to live up to the ideals set forth by its namesake—particularly when it comes to accessibility for all. This seminar illustrates how exceeding mandates can create unintended benefits for patrons and operators and illuminates the ways that art spaces are advancing the future of inclusive design.

This story will be told through an examination of renovations at four major performance spaces over three decades—a microcosm of the history of accessibility from ADA compliance toward a broader human-centered design approach.
