Kris Krider joined the Arlington County Planning Division in 2013 as the County Architect and Supervisor for the Urban Design Section. Kris has over 30 years of experience in successfully managing urban design, architecture and planning projects and programs for both the public and private sectors in San Francisco, CA, Portland, OR, Cincinnati, OH, and several cities in North Carolina. He has served as a planning director, planning and urban design consultant, urban design studio manager and adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati Department of Art, Architecture and Planning.

As head of the county’s Urban Design section, Kris and his staff provide in-house architecture and landscape architectural technical review of current site plan projects, support long range planning projects such as small area plans and lead initiatives such as Biophilic Arlington and the Future of Outdoor Dining study.
Kris has a Master of Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley and a BA in Architecture from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. Kris is a certified professional planner and in 2023 was elected as Chair-Elect for the Urban Design and Preservation Division of the American Planning Association.
